Ryan Sorba is an author, columnist, and conservative political activist. Ryan is currently serving as Chairman of the Young Conservatives of California (YCC).
Prior to YCC Ryan served for three years as National Director at the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT). During this time Ryan was also elected Chairman of the California Young Americans for Freedom (YAF). Prior to CFACT/YAF Ryan served for two years as the National Director of Membership and Campus Leadership for the Richard and Helen DeVos Freedom Center at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) in Wilmington, Delaware, a position first held by William F. Buckley Jr.
During his time at ISI Ryan recruited 13,876 new members in a single year, more than doubling the Institute's 55 year annual membership recruitment record. Between ISI, Li, CFACT, YAF, and YCC Ryan has helped found or maintain 102 independent conservative clubs on college campuses nationwide, a partial list of these clubs can be viewed below.
In 2009 Ryan participated in the now famous undercover ACORN investigation along with Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe. The investigation led John Boehner to introduce H.R. 3571, the Defund ACORN Act, which was eventually adopted as part of H.R. 3221, the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009.
The passage of the bill which defunded ACORN led the organization into bankruptcy. ACORN received more than $53 million in direct funding from the federal government between 1994 and 2009, and has likely received substantially more indirectly through states and localities that receive federal block grants.
The investigation was widely acclaimed as a huge victory for America. Originally Glenn Beck mistook Ryan Sorba for "Jim the Acorn Housing Advisor" on FOX News. Ryan was eventually vindicated.
In February 2010, fresh off the ACORN investigation Ryan gave his well-known CPAC 2010 Speech. During the speech Ryan condemned organizers for bringing a left-wing homosexual activist organization called GOProud to the event.
The invitation of GOProud to CPAC was representative of 1960's era YAF infighting between libertarians and traditionalists. Libertarians, this time at CPAC, had purged traditionalists from power to the point where they had little to no control. Ryan's speech sounded the alarm on the issue to the broader conservative movement which was largely ignorant to the insidious take over that had been taking place right under their noses.
Although Ryan was cheered by some, he was also booed by some members of the audience, which was composed largely of Ron Paul supporters, 9/11 Truthers, and anarcho-capitalists -not conservatives.
The speech as noted, became the catalyst for a movement to remove David Keene as Chairman of the American Conservative Union, the organization which hosts CPAC. Keene was largely responsible for the Libertarian take-over of CPAC.
The following year (2010) Mr. Keene was removed as Chairman for a variety of reasons, including financial mismanagement and controversies surrounding GOProud and Islamists Grover Norquist and Suhail Kahn.
Ryan considers Keene's removal as Chair of CPAC as the most important victory he has been a part of during his young career as an activist: "While defunding ACORN was extremely important, removing Keene will change the direction of the Conservative movement for the next 20 years," he says.
Pro-family activist and Loudoun County, Virginia Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio had this to say:
"Ryan Sorba changed history. He was there first being critical of Grover Norquist and anyone else at CPAC who sold out. He called statist liberals what they were 'statist liberals,' who wanted government power and money, for play at CPAC. He condemned them first. He condemned so-called 'libertarians' who sought broad new federal powers because of their 'sexual orientation.' Against all of them, Sorba stood like a stone wall."
Later in 2010 Ryan was approached by CNN. He was asked to star in the 2010 CNN Documentary Right on the Edge which documented six prominent young conservative activists taking on public corruption and the mainstream media: Ryan Sorba, James O'Keefe, Hannah Giles, Lila Rose, Christian Hartsock, and Jason Mattera. The show was aired multiple times and was a huge success.
In December 2010 Ryan helped orchestrate another widely successful undercover investigation to expose United Nations Delegates at the COP 16 Conference on Climate Change in Cancun. Ryan had the opportunity to work with Lord Christopher Monckton, 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley and young film-maker Christian Hartsock. With the aid of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) the trio exposed leftists as vying to "destabilize" the United States Economy and Ban Di-hydrogen Monoxide (aka water). The Climate Kooks video can be seen here.
Ryan Sorba also played a small roll in helping Lila Rose's now famous pro-life Live Action organization get started. He appeared in one of the groups early publications which can be seen here. Live Action went on to conduct an ACORN-type investigation into Planned Parenthood, which led to the organization being defunded $300 million by Congress in Febuary 2011 and most importantly, innumerable saved innocent lives. Later, in 2015 Live Action trained David Daleiden released a hugely successful 12 part investigation into the harvesting of unborn babies body parts by Live Action.
Ryan appeared in the 2009 independent film The Lives of Better Men, by Christian Hartsock and the independent music videos Victicrat and The Landreiu Dance along with James O'Keefe. Ryan has appeared on FOX News' Glenn Beck, Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, MSNBC's Keith Olberman, The Howard Stern Show, CSPAN, CNN.
Ryan Sorba has appeared on HLN's On Call with Dr. Drew about 12 times and is a repeat guest on You Too America's, America Trend's with Dr. Gina.
Ryan Sorba graduated from California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2007. During this time he founded the CSUSB chapter of the College Republicans. Taking time off from school in 2006 he helped found 22 independent Conservative clubs on college campuses in Massachusetts and 8 in Southern California working as a Field Representative for the Campus Leadership Program at the Leadership Institute.
Ryan has given numerous lectures on college campuses nationwide on subjects such as The History of the Conservative Intellectual Movement Since 1945 and the subject of his forthcoming book The “Born Gay” Hoax, which he hopes will serve as a great asset to conservatives in the culture war. A published rough-draft can be seen here.
Ryan currently resides in Orange County, California.
